a little history
Originally a 19th Century farmhouse, Chalet Hugo underwent a huge rebuilding programme in the1980s and further modernisation in 2021, now providing 3 floors of spacious, modern accommodation, newly fitted bathrooms and comfortable bedrooms.
The Chalet was once owned by François Hugo, renowned world-wide for the beautiful precious metal works of art he produced with his friends Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Jean Arp, Jean Cocteau, Dorothea Tanning and many others. His work is present in many museums and often put up for auction. Many pieces were created in the Chalet’s workshop, which still exists in the garden. Neighbours tell us Francois sat with Picasso and other friends in the Chalet’s kitchen enjoying artistic conversation over wine. Coincidentally, Francois was also Victor Hugo’s (author or Les Miserables and The Hunchback of Notre Dame) great-grandson.
